美國消費不行了?零售巨頭塔吉特一季度同店銷售停滯,預計二季度會更差

全球最大的零售商之一$塔吉特(TGT.US)$,發出了消費支出放緩的警告信號。
美東時間5月17日,塔吉特公佈了2023年第一季度財務業績。財報顯示,塔吉特一季度的同店銷售額與去年同期持平,華爾街預期爲增長0.2%,而上一季度爲增長0.7%;其中,實體店同店銷售額同比增長0.7%,數字同店銷售額同比下降3.4%。
同店銷售額是一項關鍵的零售指標,追蹤開業至少13個月的實體店和在線商店的銷售額。塔吉特一季度交易流量只增長了約1%,而去年同期爲3.9%。
對於這種趨勢,塔吉特的高管表示,由於物價上漲和利率上升限制了家庭預算,消費者正在減少非必需品的購買,轉而購買必需品。食品、飲料、家庭必需品和化妝品的銷售都很強勁。但他警告稱,消費者正在動搖:“進入2023年,消費者對所面臨的持續通脹和利率上升的問題有了清晰的認識。”
由於勞動力成本上升、通脹和失竊造成的商品損失,塔吉特一季度淨利潤同比下滑5.8%至9.5億美元。考慮到2022年庫存減少造成的約7億美元利潤損失,該公司預計將有12億美元的利潤化爲烏有,主要原因是有組織的零售盜竊犯罪。
塔吉特董事長兼首席執行官 Brian Cornell 表示:
在去年惡化的趨勢之後,我們繼續面對庫存縮減帶來的重大逆風。
我們正在進行重大的戰略投資,以防止這種情況在我們的商店發生,保護我們的客人和團隊。
市場一直在懷疑,年初強勁的消費者支出趨勢是否會持續,消費支出放緩是否迫在眉睫。而事實印證了他們的猜想:由於家居裝修熱潮正在消退,導致銷售下滑,家得寶此前也下調了業績預期。
塔吉特執行副總裁兼首席增長官 Christina Hennington 對“消費支出強勁”的說法進行了抨擊。她表示,美國消費者在權衡家庭需求的同時,仍然面臨着取捨的難題。雖然通脹率終於在下降,但消費者的儲蓄率和信心也在下降。迫在眉睫的經濟衰退,使許多美國家庭感到恐懼。
展望未來,塔吉特表示,預計二季度的銷售將繼續低迷,可比銷售額將出現個位數的下降。基於第一季度疲軟的銷售趨勢,塔吉特預計Q2同店銷售額的變動區間中值將爲以低個位數下降。GAAP每股收益和調整後每股收益預計均在1.30美元至1.70美元之間,低於市場共識預期的1.93美元。
$沃爾瑪(WMT.US)$將於美東時間週四發佈一季度財報,$梅西百貨(M.US)$、$柯爾百貨(KSS.US)$和$諾德斯特龍(JWN.US)$將於本月晚些時候發佈財報,都將提供有關消費健康狀況的跡象。
